Carpet sanding and traffic lanes are a direct result of foot traffic occurring in the same place over and over again. The bottom of our shoes or feet attracts sand, oils, soils, etc. and these abrasives act like sand paper as we walk across our carpets. Overtime, the surface of the carpet is “sanded” and becomes permanently damaged. If soil is left in the carpet for a long time it can actually chemically bond and become part of the fiber. The extent to which sanding and traffic lanes can be reduced depends on a number of factors. The two biggest factors are the number years the carpet has gone without professional cleaning, the traffic pattern and the grade of the carpet.

To explain sanding a good example of this is your white, everyday socks. Overtime your socks become gray from soil and appear dirty after washing them even though they are clean and no soil is present. Sometimes bleaching them will brighten the discoloration but does nothing to the damage already caused to the fibers. With enough time the soil actually stains the socks creating the gray appearance.

The same is true for carpet. If soil is allowed enough time on the carpet it will stain the fibers and cause permanent damage. In most cases, steam cleaning with special cleaning techniques can remove most of the discoloration but the damage to the carpet fibers are permanent. After professional cleaning, the carpets will appear soiled when in fact they are clean. This is often due to the combination of factors such as scratches, distortions, and soil that has chemically bonded with the fibers and has stained them.

Regular professional steam cleaning as recommended by carpet manufacturers would have prevented this damage. 99% of carpet mills recommend steam cleaning basis (aka hot water extraction, steam extraction) on a regular basis usually every 12-18 months before soiling is visibly present. In some cases, more frequent cleanings are necessary.

Dirty appearance or apparent soil that remains despite professional cleaning efforts is not the carpet cleaners fault.

How soon can I walk on my carpeting once it has been cleaned?

Keep pets, children and regular traffic off of the carpet for a period of 3 hours. The home owner may use the carpet lightly immediately after cleaning by wearing the booties we provide. Wait 12 hours before removing foam blocks and paper tabs that are put in place to protect your furniture and carpet. Some carpets may still feel slightly damp for up to 4 hours depending on carpet, soiling condition and weather. This is normal and will not cause any problems. We utilize the latest turbo drying technologies to remove approximately 90% of all moisture before we leave your home.

 Do you move the furniture?

Yes, but small pieces of furniture only, like chairs, tables, end tables, etc. Beds, sofas, entertainment centers, computers and heavier pieces of furniture are left in place due to liability issues.

 Do you clean Berber?

Absolutely, Berber is a weave, not a particular type of fabric. Berber is simply a type of loop construction that may come in olefin, nylon, wool, or a blend. Berber requires a more thorough cleaning than other carpets because the “flushing” action needs to take place to get under, around, and through the loops. Other companies that are not as thorough as we are do have problems with Berber because of leaving soil behind that “wicks” back to the surface.

What’s the difference between a “spot” and a “stain.”?

Professional carpet cleaners refer to a surface mark or substance on the carpet as a spot (example: dried food, dirt, grease) and a discoloration of carpet fibers as a stain (example: Kool-aid, pet urine stains, paints, wines and any products containing a dye).

Spots will typically come out with any of our cleaning services whereas stains will require specialized chemicals and labor in an attempt to remove them. Some stains may be permanent. Specialized stain removal processes are charged accordingly.

I have stains that reappear after my carpets are cleaned, what causes this?

Stains that reappear after your carpets have been cleaned are typically caused because of deep set liquids that have penetrated the carpeting and now reside in the padding. During your carpet cleaning, moisture, heat and suction are applied to the carpets surface and fibers. This cleaning action has a tendency to moisten the hidden deposits in your padding and as your freshly cleaned carpets start to dry, evaporation will pull the contaminates from your padding to the surface.

Keeping in mind that carpet cleaning is designed to clean your carpets and NOT clean your padding, a specialized process called a “water claw” is used in an effort to prevent spots from returning. When a water claw is used, the area of the spot must be saturated with cleaning solutions and allowed to dwell deep in the padding. The idea behind the saturation is to flood the padding with chemicals designed to break up the staining in the padding and then extract using a specialized tool known as a “water claw.” This process will pull contaminates through the carpet and eliminate the possibility of reoccurring spots. This process is specialized and additional costs may apply.

Cleaning Leather Furniture

Make sure when you select cleaning products for leather furniture that the product does not contain any silicone or waxes. These will eventually cause the leather finish to wear out, which will destroy the appearance of your furniture. Cleaning leather furniture requires mild cleaners made especially for the leather. Choose them carefully to maintain the beautiful appearance of your leather furniture for years to come. Ask for recommendations at a furniture store.

Cleaning Antique Furniture

If your antique furniture has been gathering dust in the basement or the attic, it probably needs a good cleaning. You can use most cleaning products on antique furniture, since the old finishes didn’t include the plastic materials that polyurethane finishes do today. If the finish on the furniture is intact and not chipped or cracked, a good cleaning might be all it takes for it to look fantastic. Start by washing off the surface dirt. If there is deeply embedded grime, you might want to use 0000-grade steel wool with light pressure to remove the dirt, along with a mild detergent or cleaning liquid.

Cleaning Wicker Furniture

Often wicker furniture sits outside on the patio or in a sunroom where it collects lots of dust in its many little cracks and crevices. If the wicker furniture has a healthy layer of dust on it, vacuum it. Use a moderately stiff brush to clean the wicker, and use small brushes to get into the creases. If you use water to clean the furniture, do not sit in it for two or three days, lest it become misshapen before it is completely dry.

Would you be surprised to learn that flooring is your third largest single investment? Your home and your automobiles may be the only two larger single investments before your flooring. Sure, if you add up all of your furniture and other valuables, they may add up to more than what your floor cost. But all by itself, your flooring is typically your largest investment. The question is Do you treat your floor like an investment?

Any investment you have requires some kind of maintenance to get the maximum ROI. You maintain your home so that it will retain its value. You maintain your vehicle by changing the oil on a regular basis to avoid costly repairs. Your carpet and flooring is the same way. It should be maintained through regular vacuuming, prompt spot removal, regular professional cleaning, and the application of protectors. Your carpet should be vacuumed once or twice a week, and professional cleaning should take place before the carpet has visible soil. Clean heavy traffic areas as often as they need it. Carpet manufacturers recommend professional cleaning at least every 12 months and require hot water extraction every 18 to 24 months to retain texture retention.

Call our office today & find out how we can help you maintain this very important investment. 403-605-3484
You grab your favorite blanket and snuggle your face against that nice, soft pillow. You take a deep, cleansing breath and notice that that pillow doesn’t smell that fresh. You think to yourself, ’sure it is, just look at it, it looks clean’.

If you want to find out how much soil is actually in your upholstery that “looks” clean, take the upholstery test. Simply take a white terry cloth towel and put it over the end of your vacuum attachment hose. Turn the vacuum on (be sure that you don’t let the vacuum suck up the towel). Gently massage the fabric with the cloth. You will have a round, dark spot which is embedded soil in the fabric.

Sometimes things that “look” clean – aren’t. Take the test! Then call K & I Carpet Cleaning Service 403-605-3484 to get your cleaning appointment scheduled.

Carpet has many benefits over hardwoods as a flooring choice. Walking on carpet is easier on the back, feet and joints because of its cushioning effect. Also it is a safer choice for young children and the elderly.

Carpet also acts as insulation during winter by keeping warmth in areas – by up to 20%. Non-carpeted areas must have a temperature increase by 6-8 degrees F to achieve the same level of comfort as carpeted areas, this can be as much as 15% increase in fuel costs.

So if you are thinking about replacing your carpet with hardwood flooring make sure that you have done all of your research and that your investment pays off in the long run.

Prolong the life of your floor covering by having it cleaned on a routine basis. Call our office – we can help…403-605-3484. Also visit our website for more information www.KandiCarpetCleaningCalgary.com

90% of our time is spent indoors, we can help you keep your Indoor Air as Clean as possible as well as your carpets. How? By removing dirt, clay, grit, pollens, bacteria, and other contaminants in your carpet. Here are the “Facts” about why you should call Certified Clean Care immediately:

FACT 1: Sand is scratching and dulling your carpet. Each day I pull pounds and pounds of clayish gritty soil out of the base of your neighbor’s carpets. It is in yours too! Spread the yarns apart and look deep. It’s grinding your expensive yarns into worthless fibers that fill up your vacuum bag.

Every moment you wait, your carpets wear out faster!

FACT 2: How do the traffic lanes feel? Oily residues from the street and air are drying to the carpet. Slightly sticky, they grab dirt and lock it on. Through a process called ‘oxidation’ soils bond with the carpet, causing color change, and becoming permanently attached. If you wait too long, you are throwing away the key to unlocking dirt and oil from traffic lanes. Clean before traffic-lanes show up!

The longer you wait between cleaning the more soil becomes permanent.

FACT 3: Is the air starting to smell stale? Pollutants in the air filter through your carpet. The carpet traps them so you don’t breathe them over and over. but what happens when that trap gets full? Your family starts breathing dust mite debris, pollens, pollutants, fungus, spores, bacteria and a long list of other really gross stuff. Once your carpets natural filtering ability gets full, it is time for a thorough cleaning for your family’s health’s sake.

Clean every six months and you will breathe easier.

All the FACTS: Clean & Breathe easier. clean your carpets before traffic lanes first start to appear, and they will last longer, look better, and protect your family’s health. Convinced that you need your carpets cleaned? Now comes the hard part….Choosing a company.

Please call K & I Carpet Cleaning Service 403-605-3484
